"For me, so many of these [the current wind-turbine systems] just aren't practical. I should be able to go down to Costco and pick one up," said Chad Maglaque from Seattle, the United States. In recent times, he got an opportunity to fulfill his dream.
Google launched "Project 10 to the 100th" contest to celebrate the company's 10th anniversary. 10 million dollars will be awarded to the five winning "project that may help the most." Maglaque entered his compact wind-turbine idea, which is a tripod with a height of about 90 cm. The innovative part of his idea is that it does not require an expensive converter to acquire electricity. "It is not going to power the whole house. But it's about doing every little bit." said Maglaque.
More than 100,000 entries were submitted to this contest from around the world, and Google accepted applications in 25 different languages. There are participants that post their ideas on YouTube, where Maglaque's video is one of the most viewed among all the projects. Currently, Google employees are narrowing the submissions to 100 entries, and the results will be posted on Martch 17th. The public vote through internet to name the top 20 will start at the same time. Participate by all means.
