The Red Cross aims to augment public awareness for victims of war through a clue-hunting game!

Set in Hopetown, a camp for internally displaced persons in northern Uganda, 16-year old Joseph, one of the millions of people displaced due to the internal conflict that has lasted for a very long time, is looking for his mother. He has 24 hours to find the Red Cross worker to get information regarding his mother's whereabouts.

This game, " Traces of Hope," is an Alternative Reality Game (ARG) launched by the British Red Cross on September 29. The players are contacted by Joseph via a satellite phone, and must hunt for clues and information hidden around the internet to help him find his mother. There are various dangers (crime, disease, etc.) lurking in such a camp. And there are many other families there who have been torn apart by the war.

"Traces of Hope" aims to have people realize what victims of internal conflict face by playing this game designed to have players search for clues and information in real websites.

This is said to be one of the first attempts by a humanitarian aid organization to communicate what the situation in a country is like through an online game.

Nearly 2 million have been internally displaced in Uganda. By blurring the boundaries between the game and the real world, "Traces of Hope" may be better able to communicate the imminence of the situation in Uganda.
