Corot, France's space telescope has discovered that 3 stars have similar "music" (or pulsations) as the Sun. This is the first time that information about what is going on inside the star has been obtained, and it may prove to become a good way to test our theories.
Professor Eric Michel of the Paris Observatory states that their predictions for such stars is close to the star pulsations detected, but there were slight variances, so astronomers may have to refine their theories on evolution of the stars.
The stellar pulsations differ depending on the age and size, as well as the chemical composition of the star. By analyzing their pulsations you can learn about their convection currents of their inner material and their rotation. This technique known as "stellar seismology" is beginning to draw much attention among astronomers, at it gathers data unobtainable from mere exterior observation.
(You can listen to the recorded star sounds on the BBC website.)
